Demi Moore is just like the rest of us — not down with the Los Angeles traffic!

Ahead of the 2025 Golden Globes red carpet, Moore avoided the usual traffic by skipping an arrival by car and walking from her hotel.

She told Variety on the red carpet that she "walked" from her hotel. And when asked where it was, she simply replied, "not far."

On Sunday, Jan, 5, the 62-year-old actress, who is nominated for her role in The Substance, walked the red carpet in a stunning metallic silk gown.

The nominee and presenter appeared in a custom Giorgio Armani Privé strapless champagne silk gown featuring a curved geometric detail embellished with Swarovski crystals.

Moore has received critical acclaim for her performance in the 2024 body horror The Substance and is nominated for best performance by a female actor in a motion picture - musical or comedy at the 2025 awards show.

In the film, the actress plays Elisabeth Sparkle, a TV aerobics instructor who is fired from her gig when she turns 50. In an effort to reverse the aging process, she begins taking an experimental, black-market drug that creates a younger version of herself portrayed by Margaret Qualley.

"It really captivated me, the way in which it was exploring this subject of aging and, in particular, that violence that we can have against ourselves, the way in which we all — men and women alike — can dissect and criticize our own reflection," Moore said of the film's themes on the Monday, Dec. 2 episode of The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast. "It just felt so relatable, on a human level."

Moore also shared that prior to her role in The Substance, she felt unsure about where her career was going. “I didn’t quite know where I fit or where I belonged," she said. "I really did hit a point where I started to wonder, not like, ‘Is this over?’ But, ‘Is this actually complete? Have I done what I was supposed to do in this?'"

Demi Moore takes home Golden Globe for 'The Substance,' her first major acting award

Demi Moore's Triumphant Night at the 2025 Golden Globes
NBC News

In what was perhaps the most shocking win of the Golden Globes in the early going Sunday night, Demi Moore snagged a statuette for best film actress in a musical or comedy for her leading role in body-horror film "The Substance."

Moore was up against some strong front-runners in the category, such as Karla Sofía Gascón in "Emilia Pérez" and Cynthia Erivo in "Wicked."

Moore, the star of "Ghost" and "A Few Good Men," appeared floored to be honored with the award, acknowledging it's the first major acting award she has ever received in her storied career.

In a powerful acceptance speech, Moore recalled a producer who, 30 years ago, told her she was a "popcorn actress."

"I made that mean that this wasn’t something I allowed to have. That I could do movies that were successful but that I couldn't be acknowledged. I bought in, and I believed that," Moore said.

That mindset, she said, "corroded me over time" to the point that she thought her career was over just a few years ago. She has also received four Razzies over her career, dubious honors that mocked several of her films.

"Maybe this was it, maybe that this was complete, that I've done what I'm supposed to do," Moore recalled thinking.

It was at that low point, Moore said, that she "had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called 'The Substance,' and the universe told me, 'You're not done.'"

The universe was right, indeed.

"The Substance" follows Elisabeth Sparkle (Moore), a washed-up actor who gets fired from her long-running job as a TV fitness instructor because she is deemed too old.

Offered an opportunity to take a “substance” to reveal a better version of herself, Sparkle takes it, in turn creating Sue (Margaret Qualley), a younger, hotter and, therefore, more successful, version of Sparkle, who tries to claim her predecessor’s life as her own.

Things, of course, go awry.

Moore made sure to take time to shout out director Coralie Fargeat, Qualley and the people who believed in her when she didn't believe in herself.

"In these moments when we don't think we're smart enough or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful [enough] ... or basically just not enough, I had a woman say to me, 'Just know you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick,'" Moore said.

She continued: "Today, I celebrate this as a marker of my wholeness and of the love that is driving me and for the gift of doing something I love and being reminded that I do belong."

Following the remarkable win, emcee Nikki Glaser weighed in on Moore's "comeback."

"There's been a lot of talk about comebacks, right? Like Pamela Anderson and Demi Moore, who just won," Glaser began.

"And it turns out, if you're a woman over 50 in a lead role, they call it a 'comeback.' If you're a guy over 50 in a lead role, congratulations. You're about to play Sydney Sweeney's boyfriend."

Demi Moore wins her first award for acting: ‘I’m just in shock right now’

Demi Moore's Triumphant Night at the 2025 Golden Globes
CNN

Demi Moore is now a first-time Golden Globe winner.

On Sunday, Moore won for best female actor in a film — musical or comedy for her performance in “The Substance.”

“I really wasn’t expecting that. I’m just in shock right now,” Moore said when she took the stage. “I’ve been doing this a long time, like over 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor and I’m just so humbled and so grateful.”

Moore, 62, recalled an exchange with a movie producer about 30 years ago who called her a “popcorn actress.”

“At that time, I made that mean that this wasn’t something that I was allowed to have,” she said of her win. “And I bought in and I believed that and that corroded me over time to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it. Maybe I was complete, maybe I’ve done what I was supposed to do.”

She said that the script for “The Substance” came to her while she was in “this low point” of her life.

“(Then) I had this magical, bold, courageous, out of the box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called ‘The Substance,’ and the universe told me that you’re not done,” Moore continued.

“The Substance” is a feminist fable with a dark warning about the pitfalls of blindly chasing youth, written and directed by Coralie Fargeat of France.

“I’ll just leave you with one thing that I think this movie is imparting,” Moore said of the film. “In those moments, when we don’t think we’re smart enough, or pretty enough, or skinny enough, or successful enough, or basically just not enough: I had a woman say to me, ‘Just know, you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.”

US actors Demi Moore and Sebastian Stan are among the big winners at the Golden Globe Awards, which are taking place in Los Angeles.

Moore was named best actress in a musical or comedy for her performance in body horror The Substance, which has revitalised her career and could see her score an Oscar nomination.

"I'm just in shock right now... I really wasn't expecting that," Moore said as she took to the stage. "I've been doing this a long time, over 45 years, and this is the first time I've ever won anything as an actor."

Other winners have included Kieran Culkin and Zoe Saldañaand TV series Baby Reindeer and Shōgun.

Blockbuster Wicked missed out on the major prizes, but won the box office and cinematic achievement prize, which was introduced last year.

In her acceptance speech, Moore said: "Thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me I was a popcorn actress, and at that time I made that mean that [awards] weren't something I was allowed to have, that I could do movies that were successful and made a lot of money but couldn't be acknowledged.

"And I bought in and believed that. That corroded me over time to the point where a few years ago I thought maybe this is it, maybe I was complete, I had done what I was supposed to do.

"And as I was at a low point, I had this creative, out of the box, bonkers script come across my desk, called the Substance, and the universe told me I was not done."

Stan was named best actor in a musical or comedy for A Different Man, which sees him play a character who drastically changes his appearance.

"Our ignorance and discomfort around disability and disfigurement has to end now, we have to normalise it and continue to expose ourselves to it, and our children, encourage acceptance."

Culkin won best supporting actor for his performance in A Real Pain, about two cousins who travel across Poland in memory of their grandmother.

"The first ever acknowledgement I got as an actor was a Golden Globe nomination when I was basically a kid. Now, it's like the best date night my wife and I ever have," he joked.

Saldaña, who won best supporting actress for her role in Spanish-language musical Emilia Pérez, said: "My heart is full of gratitude."

"I'm so blessed to be sharing this moment with my fellow nominees," she continued. "I know this is a competition but all I have witnessed is just us showing up for each other and celebrating each other and it's just so beautiful."

The film also won best non-English language film which saw director Jacques Audiard take to the stage with a French translator to accept the award.

"In these troubled times I hope Emilia Perez will be a beacon of light," he said. "I hope to offer a comforting hug to those who are worried... I urge them to keep they heads held high and hope for a better few days ahead."

Accepting Wicked's prize for box office achievement, director Jon M Chu paid tribute to the movie and stage musical's loyal fanbase.

"This is for you, the fans out there, who came to the movie theatres, brought your friends and family, we saw your videos, your singalongs, your make-up, hair products, bakery items," he said.

"It shows us how important making this stuff is, in a time when pessimism and cynicism rule the planet, that we can still make art that is a radical act of optimism."

There was a surprise but welcome winner in the animated feature category, which saw box office juggernauts The Wild Robot and Inside Out 2 beaten by Flow, a film about animals who must work together to survive following a flood.

"This film was made by a very small, young, but passionate team, in a place where there isn't a big film industry, so this is the first time a film from Latvia has been here so this is huge for us," said director Gints Zilbalodis.

Elsewhere, Baby Reindeer was named best limited TV series, which was accepted by its writer and creator Richard Gadd.

"A lot of people ask me why a show this dark has gone on to be the success that it has," he said. "And I think in a lot of ways, people were crying out for something that spoke to the painful inconsistencies of being human.

"For a while there's been this belief in television that stories which are too dark and complicated won't sell and no-one will watch them, so I hope Baby Reindeer has done away with that theory, because right now, when the world's in the state that it's in and people are really struggling, we need stories which speak to the complicated and difficult nature of our times."

British actress Jessica Gunning was named best TV supporting actress for her portrayal as a stalker in the hit Netflix series.

In her acceptance speech, Gunning shared an anecdote about getting a hamster for Christmas as a child, and thinking that she couldn't believe it was happening to her. She said that phrase had become the "soundtrack of my life this year".

"Thank you to Richard Gadd, Baby Reindeer has changed my life in ways that I can't even explain. I can't believe this is happening to me," she repeated, "and I know that eight-year-old me wouldn't either, she'd be chuffed to bits."

Irish actor Colin Farrell won his third Golden Globe, for playing the Batman villain Penguin in an HBO series of the same name.

On stage, he joked that he had "no one to thank" and "did it all by myself".

Recalling the three hours it took to fit him with prosthetics to make him the bloated villain in his latest film, he said: "In the morning, I drank black coffee, listened to 80s music, and I became a canvas for that team's brilliance."

Farrell also said: "Thank you for employing me. And yeah, I guess it's prosthetics from here on out."

The Golden Globes mark the first major ceremony of the film awards season, which culminates with the Oscars on 2 March.

A win at the Globes can help boost a film's profile at a crucial time, when Bafta and Oscar voters are preparing to fill in their nomination ballots.

Golden Globes honor Demi Moore, Sebastian Stan in film awards

Demi Moore's Triumphant Night at the 2025 Golden Globes
Reuters

BEVERLY HILLS, California, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Demi Moore and Sebastian Stan landed Golden Globe awards on Sunday as actors competed in the first of this year's Hollywood red-carpet celebrations leading to the Oscars.

Moore won best female actor in a musical or comedy film for her leading role in "The Substance," the story of a fading actress seeking a fountain of youth.

"I'm just in shock right now," Moore said as she held her trophy on stage. "I've been doing this a long time, over 45 years. This is the first time I've ever won anything as an actor."

A few years ago, Moore said, she thought her career might be over. When she read the script for "The Substance," "the universe told me you are not done," she said.

Stan was named best male actor in a film musical or comedy for "A Different Man," a movie about a man with facial disfigurement.

"Our ignorance and discomfort around disability and disfigurement has to end now," Stan said. "We have to normalize it and continue to expose ourselves to it and our children."

Zoe Saldana appeared overwhelmed when she was named best supporting film actress for playing a lawyer who helps a Mexican drug lord start a new life and transition to a woman in musical thriller "Emilia Perez."

"My heart is full of gratitude to the Golden Globes for celebrating our film," Saldana said on stage as she wept through her speech and thanked her co-stars and director.

Kieran Culkin was named best supporting film actor for "A Real Pain," a dramedy about cousins who travel to Poland to explore their family's roots.

At the start of the show, first-time host Nikki Glaser welcomed the celebrity crowd to "Ozempic's biggest night" and teased Timothee Chalamet, Harrison Ford, Selena Gomez and other power players in the audience.

"You could do anything, except tell the country who to vote for," Glaser said, referring to widespread Hollywood support for the losing candidate in the recent U.S. presidential election.

On the red carpet ahead of the show, celebrities shined in black, gold and silver gowns with an occasional red or periwinkle in the mix. "Wicked" star Ariana Grande wore a yellow Givenchy gown with a beaded bodice that she said was a tribute to the yellow brick road leading to Oz in the movie musical.

"It's so exciting to be here because I'm such a fan of every single person I bump into," Grande said of the star-studded crowd in Beverly Hills.

Winning a Globe can shine a spotlight on movies and performances in the run-up to the Academy Awards in March. So far, awards pundits say, there is no clear favorite for the coveted best picture prize at the Oscars.

Globe honorees were chosen by 334 entertainment journalists from 85 countries, compared with roughly 9,000 voters who select the Academy Awards. The Globes voting body has been expanded in recent years and organizers instituted reforms after being criticized for ethical lapses and a lack of diversity.
